Peace through strength was the central theme of President Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, with the president underscoring American dominance in the Western Hemisphere. Before the address, the White House released a fact sheet highlighting the Trump administration’s slashing of more than $1 billion in UN funding, with $570 million from the “regular budget slashed,” and $549 million from peacekeeping efforts that the administration argues support “endless missions.”

One year later: Antifa terror designations yields convictions, global crackdown
Tuesday marks one year since President Donald Trump designated Antifa a domestic terror organization, paving the way for convictions and a global crackdown on the militant leftist group. The designation was put into motion less than a week after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which raised concerns about rising left-wing violence in the U.S. The Center Square – present for a public safety announcement in the Oval Office on a late Monday afternoon Sept. 22, 2025 – asked the president if he was considering designating Antifa a domestic terror organization.

Vance cancels $2.2B in Obamacare funds over fraud
The Trump administration cancelled enrollment in the Affordable Care Act healthcare program for about 750,000 people due to ineligibility suspicions, Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday.  The individuals are connected to more than $2.2 billion in fraudulent Obamacare payments, Vance alleges, or about 2% of the Affordable Care Act's annual $112 billion budget.

DOJ says it will take 'aggressive actions' to secure midterm elections
With the November midterm elections only six weeks away, the Trump administration is already implementing ballot security and fraud prevention measures, Acting U.S. Deputy Attorney General Trent McCotter told the media Tuesday.

PUBLIC RECORDS: The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that state agencies can't withhold public records and that Arizona courts must independently review disputed requests. GAO WATCHDOG PICK: A coalition of 23 groups and individuals is urging Congress to cut the president out of choosing the next comptroller general, who leads the Government Accountability Office, the agency that audits federal spending for Congress. GAO has been run by an acting chief since Gene Dodaro's 15-year term ended in December. The Center Square examines what's at stake for taxpayer oversight and whether the committees will act before the 119th Congress ends. (Brett Rowland)

CONCIERGE MEDICINE: Doctors are starting to charge membership fees for things that used to be free for most patients. A Medicare Payment Advisory Commission report to Congress this year found concierge and direct primary care practices grew more than 80% from 2018 to 2023, as physicians increasingly opt out of traditional insurance models. The Center Square examines what's driving the shift and what it means for patients left in the traditional system. (Brett Rowland)

UPDATE ON K-12 TECH: As more states take steps to revise AI and tech/phone use in K-12 classrooms, the U.S. Department of Education issued guidance urging schools to use technology based on instructional value and student outcomes while maintaining a human-centered approach to teaching. The Center Square will look at the national trends of phone policies across the country and what education analysts think about the subject since public education is taxpayer-funded.
