Report: Arizona, Mississippi, Georgia top list of states embracing 'worker freedom'
Free market state policy group the American Legislative Exchange Council Wednesday released its fourth edition of States That Work, its report ranking states according to their labor policy. Arizona, Mississippi and Georgia have the strongest set of policies promoting “worker freedom” and economic mobility, according to the report, while Oregon, Massachusetts and Alaska ranked last. COVID-19: The Hobbs administration in Arizona asked an administrative law judge to pause 30 appeals involving one provider while the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System  pursues a separate lawsuit over the same disputes. The appeals deal with COVID-19 test reimbursement rates and how out-of-network laboratories would be paid for non-emergency services provided without prior authorization. PRE-911 HEADLINES: The killing of Chandra Levy, President George W. Bush’s tax cut legislation, and aviation warnings dominated news coverage in the weeks and months before the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

COST-CUTTER BONUSES: A bill long championed by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., would let federal workers keep a cut of the wasteful spending they flag, but congressional scorekeepers say they cannot estimate any savings and peg the budget effect at essentially zero. An independent budget expert calls the likely savings "infinitesimal" in a $7 trillion budget, and the idea has been introduced every Congress since 2013 without becoming law. (Brett Rowland)
